Absences- You must
submit a
written excuse or email to the office every time your child is absent from school.
The absence is considered unexcused until this
is received.
Attendance- Regular attendance in Kindergarten is required
in North Carolina.
Backpacks-
Please send your child's belongings in a backpack. It
is very difficult for a child to keep up with multiple items
if they are not contained in one place.
Birthdays- Birthdays are very special times in our
classroom. You are not obligated to, but you are
welcome to send in a small healthy snack for the class to celebrate
your child's special day.
Book Orders- We
occasionally order books from Scholastic Book Club. These books are very reasonably priced and are
interesting and age appropriate. Our class earns
points for every book purchased that may be used to get new
books for our room!
Breakfast- This is the most important meal of the day and it
is free to all students at our school! Please
encourage your child to eat a good breakfast daily. It
is served from 7:30 a.m. until 7:50 a.m.
Clothing- All students at The Learning Center! are required
to wear uniforms. Please dress your child
appropriately for the weather and keep in mind that your
child participates in Physical Education daily. Heavy
coats and jackets may be worn outdoors; however, only dress
code clothing is allowed in class. While it is not a
requirement, you may wish to send in a change of clothes in
case of any accidents.
Communication- We believe that frequent communication with
you, our parents, is essential. Please check your
child's take-home notebook daily for communication from us
or from the office, and use it to communicate any questions,
information,
or comments to us. You may also email us at any time.
Conferences- Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled twice
a year- before school begins and at the beginning of the
second semester. If you want to meet with us any other
time, let us know and we'll be happy to arrange a time to
get together.
Dress Code- All students are required to wear dress code
daily. Check your student handbook or ask if you have
any questions about dress code standards. You will be
notified when your child is not in compliance with this
code.
Early dismissal- School dismisses at 3:00 every day.
If you pick up your child before this time, you must report
to the office and sign the student out. Please limit
early dismissals to emergencies.
Email- For those of you with computer access,
we encourage you to email
us with questions or comments at ;
judyc@naturallygrownkids.org
or
penny@naturallygrownkids.org. We will check our email
daily.
Field Work- Our class occasionally participates in fieldwork
as an extension to classroom learning.
We greatly appreciate all of you who graciously volunteer to
help make these learning experiences possible.
Good Credit Cards- It is a positive behavior
incentive. Your child receives "punches" on the credit
card for appropriate behavior daily. For every
"filled-up" credit card, your child receives one TLC! buck,
and a small prize from our Prize Bucket. TLC! bucks
are used to purchase goods and services at our Mini-Mall
held 3 times during the school year.
Illness- Please do not send
your child to school if he/she has a temperature or other
evidence of a contagious disease.
Late Arrival- We begin our instructional day at 8:00 a.m.
It is important to have your child at school before that
time. Every time a child enters the classroom late, it
disrupts the entire class and takes away from teaching time.
Lunch- Kindergarten eats lunch daily from 11:15-11:45 a.m.
in the Kindergarten classroom.
You are welcome to join your child for lunch whenever you
have the opportunity.
Mini-mall - as part of our Mini-REAL program, students
have the opportunity 3 times a year to redeem their TLC!
bucks for a variety of goods and services. Older
students have the opportunity to operate a small business at
each Mini-mall.
Newsletters-
You will receive a quarterly newsletter with every progress
report. Newsletters will also be posted on this website.
Notes- All
correspondence from the office or from our
classroom will be placed in the front pocket of your child's
take-home notebook. Please check it daily.
Physical
Education- Your child will participate in P.E. daily for 45 minutes. You may find out more about this
program by viewing the P.E. web page.
Progress Reports- Your child will receive a progress
report at the end of every quarter (approximately every nine
weeks). These reports are based upon ongoing
assessments of your child's academic progress.
Please do not hesitate to ask
ANY Question you have about your child. We all want
this year to be a happy and successful one for every child!
Rules- Kindergarten students are expected to abide by a set
of seven rules: 1. Walk 2. Use a quiet voice inside. 3.
When others are working leave them alone. 4. Treat
others with kindness. 5. Clean up all messes, put things
away. 6. Work during work time. 7. Listen to
teachers and follow directions. The children earn "punches" on their
Good Credit cards daily for successfully following these
rules.
Snacks- We have a snack time
every afternoon. Your child may bring a small snack
from home or purchase one from the school. A variety of healthy snacks
is offered.
Take-home
notebooks - This notebook is our primary means of
communication between home and school. Please make
sure you review this planner daily.
Visitors - you are welcome to observe our classroom at any
time. We ask that you please make prior arrangements
before your visit. All visitors must sign-in at the office
prior to coming into the classroom and wear a "Visitor"
badge.
ZZZs - make sure your child gets plenty of rest each night.
