“They’re Here…There goes the neighborhood”
The Addams Family…Monster Mash event set for October 24
“The Addams Family” is this year’s annual “Monster Mash” theme at The Learning
Center! Charter School. The Addams Family-inspired event takes place Saturday,
October 24 from 6:30 to 10:30pm at the school on Conaheeta St.
and will feature a walk-thru maze designed to look like the setting from
the Addams Family movies and TV series. Actors from local high schools and the
community will play roles dressed as characters re-creating scenes inside the
maze.
“We plan these themed events for almost a year in advance and have a lot of help
from not only dozens of dedicated parents but many community members and
business owners.” said Mary Jo Dyre, director of the school. “Last year our
event was “Chronicles of Narnia” and it was a huge hit. I think this year’s
“Addams Family” theme has something for everyone. It’s always lots of fun for
both kids and adults!”
“This year we are pre-selling tickets”. Said Dyre, “If you pre-buy $20 worth of
tickets before Thursday, October 22, you get $25 worth when you redeem them at
the ticket counter on the night of the event”.
The Learning Center! has established this event as an annual tradition—always
around Halloween. “This is our sixth year”. said school publicity director,
Jamie Keener. “It just keeps getting bigger and better every year. It’s hard to
imagine how we can top the past year’s events but somehow we always do!” Crowd
estimates for last year’s event was over 500.
he event will also include a costume contest, great food in the “Cada Mia Café”, Costume Contest, Pumpkin Carving Contest, Pony Rides, Dance, Bounce House, Giant Slide, Creepy Cake Walk, and Booths.
Some highlights of the maze will include a haunted graveyard at the entrance of the maze, and scene’s from the movie Addams Family Values and old black & white tv series. “We are expecting another “celebrity appearance” this year”. Said Keener, “One year it was ‘KISS’ and another year, ‘The Blues Brothers’ paid a visit. Cost to enter the maze is $4. Booths and activities are $1 to $2 and food will be for sale. The event runs one night only on Saturday, October 24 from 6:30 to 10:30pm. If you would like to donate money to help children in need who can not attend this event due to financial reasons, please call The Learning Center! at 835-7240 for more information.
