The Learning Center Charter School1st & 4th Grade Team Up on STEM
First and fourth grade are both learning about earth materials and properties in science. Students decided to explore the physical property of strength which is an important consideration in designing and building any structure. Mixed age groups worked together to explore which shapes can handle more pressure and tested these “buildings” with playing cards. Students then got to design their own form based off of what they learned. One group managed to make a strong enough structure to hold over 120 playing cards!!
