2nd Grade Science — Life Cycles

Second graders are enjoying learning about many different types of organisms and their life cycles. They recently learned all about ants. As it turns out, ants can be just as important to the soil as earthworms (which we are learning about all month as we build up to becoming worm farmers.) Ants are very intelligent social creatures, and a major part of many ecosystems. Students learned ant anatomy using raisins as they created large ants with head, thorax, abdomens, and six legs. Students also learned about compound eyes of insects and how their vision works differently than ours. They even created their own ant eyes to try to see through the lens of the mighty ant.
