Throughout this school year students in third grade have learned about the Titanic in a variety of ways. Students even decided to design clothes from recycled materials to replicate fashion from the Titanic. They researched clothing from the 1912’s, watched videos of a fashion designer who makes clothing from recycled materials, and learned about where stuff comes from and goes when we are done with it. After watching a video about the island of trash in the ocean, students started collecting trash to recycle into clothing. Working in pairs, students worked through the engineering design process to make prototypes. Afterwards the students presented their designs to the class and told what improvements they would do to their designs to make them more realistic to 1912 fashion. The students were so excited about this project that some took their designs home and improved them.
