5th Grade STEM - Paper Airplanes

Fifth grade students have been studying gravity, lift, force, drag and aerodynamics in science and Ms. Jay saw it as the perfect opportunity for student to make paper airplanes.

Students were tasked with designing four different types of paper airplanes for a customer requesting planes that flew as straight as possible without flipping or turning.

Students made prototypes and tested them making adjustments as needed. They recorded three trials per airplane and recorded the data. When they were done testing, measuring distance, and recording the data, they created graphs and wrote up the experiment to present to the customer explaining the best paper airplane designs based on customer requests.
