Back in November, students in fifth grade traveled to Chattanooga to visit McGhee Tyson Airport. Prior to their trip, the class used Skype to talk to some of the airport personnel including civil engineers and the GIS manager. Students learned about aviation career fields and how an airport operates. Students saw the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Facility, the Airport Maintenance Center, TAC Air (a general aviation facility that operates at the airport,) and the main terminal building including administrative offices. They also got to get out on one of the closed runways that is currently under reconstruction.
