8th Grade STEM Lesson – Walk the Line

Students in eighth grade worked on a lesson called Walk the Line from the Science House.  Students used motion detectors to graph their position from the motion detector over time.  Because the motion detectors are linked directly to the computers, students can see immediately how their movement looks on the graph.  They were able to experiment with the graphs, and learn more about their variables, slope, and other aspects of linear equations they have been studying in math class.

The Science House program from NC State is a free lending library of science and technology equipment.  Once trained, teachers can check out supplies for experiments and activities that support STEM education.
