The first and sixth grade classes recently joined forces on a STEM project in which they created their own unique ecosystem in a biodome.  They discussed abiotic (nonliving) and biotic (living) factors that influence the survival of an ecosystem.  Students decided whether they wanted to create a forest, grassland, freshwater body, or other ecosystem.  They then built a biome by collected supplies from the outdoors, including slugs, snails, worms, and plants.  Students then observed their biodomes for the next few weeks to see how the organisms interacted with their environment.
