Learning Center’s Alumns Share Talent on “Music Friday”

Each Friday, The Learning Center! Charter School students are entertained during lunch by a guest musician, as part of the school’s new “Expose Yourself To Music Fridays” program. The newly expanded Music Education program supports the existing K-5 chorus program and drama program while providing general music education to K-8thgraders.

On Friday, November 1st, the school was proud to offer students a performance by “The Pressley Girls,” former students of The Learning Center. The twin duet comes from a family of musical talent and performs authentic Appalachian melodies that focus on tight harmony and lyrical meaning. Influenced by the Louvin Brothers and classic country singers from the 40s and 50s, Katie and Corie Pressley hope to bring transcendent genuine music back to the world. Corie Pressley plays the guitar and mandolin while singing harmony with her sister, Katie, who plays the piano, fiddle, and mandolin while singing lead.

As part of the “Expose Yourself To Music Fridays” program, the school ties in the curriculum, incorporating “spin-off” related lessons to enhance academics with the arts. “It is our goal,” said Mary Jo Drye, director of The Learning Center!, “that this program will offer regular exposure to our K-8th students with a wide variety of musical artists and genres. We are so proud that The Pressley girls are alums of our school. They are part of a huge pool of talent we have right here in our community.”
