More About Girls on the Run and Girls on Track
This year’s 5K race was on May 17th at the UNC Asheville campus. You can see each TLC girl wore a green t-shirt, had an adult running buddy and wore #1 as her race number.
“Girls on the Run,” a curriculum-based, character-development program serving girls in the 3rd through 8th grades in Western North Carolina is one of many unique offerings at The Learning Center! Charter School. The national program is offered to 14 counties in the western N.C. division and combines training for a 5K running event with healthy living education.
The Girls on Track community service project was not just one thing, but many things for the playground at our school. Ms. Mary, Ms. Shelley, and Ms. Jay helped with the project along with one of the parents. The girls built new planter boxes, picked up trash from the playground, moved the big wooden bench, nailed in loose nails on the walkways, and blocked off an area by using recycled wood that matched the new planter box. They had a great time and it looks wonderful!
