During a science unit all about nutrition, fourth graders learned about portion size by reading nutrition facts labels. They were given bowls of different sizes and shapes and told to pour a portion of cereal into their bowls. Then they had to measure how much their portion size was and compare it to the actual portion size based on the label. They concluded that the portions they poured were definitely influenced by the size and shape of their bowls. They were amazed at how small an actual portion of cereal was.
