Sixth Grade Science & Sound

Sixth graders continue to experiment with rubber bands to learn the relationship between amplitude (wave height) and sound waves.  They are learning about the different parts of the sound wave, and how they influence the sound we hear.  They have played with banjos, guitars, flutes, boomwhackers, as well as homemade instruments of rubber bands, glasses of water, and cane pan flutes to discover how to create and manipulate amplitude, wavelength, and frequency.  Additionally, students will be exploring how sound travels at different speeds through different mediums, and different states of matter.
