Recently Sixth Graders took a walking field trip of Murphy, exploring the history and some of the myths of the area.

They went to the Leech Place, the L&N Depot for a talk about trains with Mayor Hughes,  the pyramid above the fire station, Harshaw Chapel, and the Cherokee County Historical Museum to look at artifacts from the history of this town.

The trip was prompted because they were studying mythology in Guided Reading class. They learned about Greek myths, Native American myths, and myths specific to this area. Mr. David took the idea of a field trip and ran with it, trying to give students a good view of the history of this area. These places were ideal because they each had a bit of history to the area.  Even sixth grade teacher, Mr. Ryan learned something new!
